The present study used a sample of police officers to test the influence of supervisor feedback and perceived organizational support on officer organizational commitment, the influence of other organizational, job characteristic, and officer personal characteristic influences. Fortunately for employers, many of the strongest correlates of organizational commitment are organizational-level characteristics that are often under the control of management, such as the degree of supervisor feed- back, the level of perceived organizational support, and the extent of employee cohesion (Mathieu & Zajac, 1990). The present study, therefore, sought to determine whether supervisor feedback and perceived organizational support could make a significant contribution to the organizational commitment of police patrol officers. It included measures of supervisor feedback, perceived organizational support, peer group cohesion, officer personal characteristics, and officer job task characteristics to determine whether they were significantly correlated with organizational commitment in a law enforcement agency environment.
